Orangen’t You Glad its Spring!

This week on my Facebook page, Makeup By Kristina Lowe, I introduced the idea of using Spring/Summer 2012′s hottest new hue: Tangerine.

Well here are the results:

If you are on the bold side, feel free to play up a bright lip in all shades of Tangerine, like I’ve demonstrated in the picture above with this crème lipstick by Sephora

If you want to tip toe your way into this trend, but still want to do a bold lip try adding a gloss over your Tangerine lipstick. The effect of the gloss lightens the bright color, and softens your overall appearance. I paired this lip with a neutral hued metallic eye look, and winged liner.

You can also bring the color into your face by sweeping a cream blush over the apples of your cheek. I chose a nice orangey-peach tone by maybelline. Cream blush keeps your cheeks looking dewy, and compliments the bold lip. I contoured my cheeks with a light bronzer to emphasize the color combo. If you’re doing a bright lip, and complimenting with a similar cheek color, then leave your eye makeup neutral. The result of a bold eye, tangerine lip, and bright cheek would bring about the resemblance of a Clown.

If bold colors on your face scares you, like spiders scare me, then have no fear! You can still get in on the Tangerine scene by trying out the hue on your nails. Pictured: I’m wearing Essie’s Brazilliant, from the Summer 2011 collection.

If you plan on trying a Tangerine inspired look this Spring/Summer, I suggest keeping your makeup on “dewy.” I finished off my overall look with a refreshing misting spray by MAC called Fix+.  It is really sets my makeup, and leaves me feeling flawless!

You’re So Pastel

With Spring’s Hot color palate relying heavily on shades inspired by the tropics, It is quite the shock to see them turn  soft as we descend further into summer. Every where you look baby blues, lilacs, blush, and mints are taking over. I am far from complaining as Revlon’s “Minted” is my new go to polish of the summer, but the question comes to mind:

“Is Pastel a new Summer Staple?”

I took this a bit further, and began to break down the ever so popular micro-trend popping up all over runways, and fashionistas in the public eye.

- It’s cooler temperature-wise. It has been passed down from Mother to Daughter for centuries that as the sun gets warmer the lighter you dress, aka retire the LBD for night-time events. It’s no surprise we’re seeing light weight wear rocking these bold warm pastel hues.

- Spiced up nudes. Neutrals come out of hiding more often in the summer months, only to rival its appearance in fall. Why not take Nudes to another level by pairing it with its Pastel counterparts?

- Pastels are girly. When you were a little lass what were your favorite colors? For me it was Carolina baby blue, pretty pinks, warm yellows, and light purples. Fact is soft colors are flattering, and they are girly. It’s like reliving a fairy tale. Who doesn’t love that?

The conclusion is simple, Pastels are amazing. You can dress them up or down. Wear it as accessories, make-up, or in your clothing. Its usually made with light weight options that beat the heat. It is a nice adult feminine touch that reminds you of being a child.  So I say

“Hello there you sweet  New Summer Staple.”

Below are some of my favorite pastel pieces for the season. Ease into the trend with accessories like the super cute Pacsun Sunnies.

DIY Project: The Ring of Things

Whatever your flavor DIY projects are thebomb.com, and has become quite the popular hobby to master. I am no crafty genius, but I do happen to know my way around a proper glue gun or adhesive.  That is the greatest part about DIY, the goal is simply to “DO IT YOURSELF.” However it turns out is never a true failure, but an attempt at making something completely original. You may be scratching your head and wondering ” Why in the world is Kristina asking me questions? I’m here to read about FASHION, not to read a motivational speech  that doesn’t require my master card, and a new pair of wedges.”  Down with your negative nancy words, and allow me introduce you to something that will open your fashion forward mind, and also save a few pennies in the process.

I have learned that being a House Wife is no fun. Hot Yoga is only ninety minutes long, what else could I possibly do to fill my day? I began venturing to antique shops, thrift stores, and yard sales in search of the most delicious vintage jewels, and buttons.  My mission was to search out not only interesting pieces to add to my collection, but to also find understated pieces to turn into absolute glamorous: RINGS!

Did you just jump a little with excitement? I’m pretty sure I just did!

Here is what you need to start your collection:

1. Good adhesive. I use adhesive specifically for jewelry making. You want something strong, but will last through hand washing.

2: Ring Settings with glue pads. The picture below are your basic adjustable setting, but the sky’s the limit on what you can use. I have bought embellished filigree settings before that are really stand out on a small piece.

3: Your Centerpiece. In the past I have been quite creative with my centerpieces. I like large, and complex. If you decide to go with buttons choose ones with flat backs or a slight decline.

4: From there its simple. Add adhesive to glue plate on ring setting, and attach your centerpiece. I ALWAYS let it dry over night regardless of what the box says. My philosophy is “I’d rather wait over night, than chance the possibility of losing skin or gluing my fingers together.”

5: Finished Projects: What do you think?

IF you don’t want to brave original ring making, but would like to purchase one I have made you’ll be able to do so soon on my etsy.com site. Ill keep you posted!

Brow Beat: A How-to for the not so pleasantly-mannered

Everyone, no matter how they try to deny it has 1 feature they are known for. You may have beautiful straight  teeth, perfect clear skin, or possess those outrageously long-toned legs (you know who you are)and everyone is completely jelly of you for that feature. For me? I am known through my grapevine of besties as the one with “GREAT BROWS.”

AWESOME^BROWS

I, like many girls who secretly do not want to show conceit (although I am quite fond of my power- brows) always respond

“What these ‘ol things? pssshhhhh I haven’t plucked these bad boys in ages. You’re crazy!”

All the while I know I spent ample amount of time brushing & plucking to make sure every hair was in its right place. Then one day I was introduced to a few miracle products, and an easy step-by-step process that made my already coveted brows hit KARDASHIAN status. Do not even pretend that you haven’t admired the Kardashian sisters and the way their eyebrows sort of stare down at you with their perfection, because even the Kardashian sister’s brows know they are better than yours.

So lets begin. Here are the products that I used, but feel free to mix and match. The absolute basics needed is a good Brow Wax closest to your root color, brow powder (usually comes in tow with brow wax,) Brow brush,  Highlighter, and translucent powder.

Mineral powder by Maybelline, High Brow by Benefit, BrowZings in Light by Benefit, tweezer by Tweezerman

Step 1: You can either have your brows professionally waxed or pluck yourself.  The 1 tip that you must be aware of when self plucking is that less is more. Thicker Eyebrows are On Trend right now. Think  Camilla Belle, not Pamela Anderson. Your brows can make you Classy or Trashy: You Decide.

Step 2: Grab your Brow brush. Sweep upwards & Out.

Step 3: Grab the Brow Wax, it should come with a stiffer angled brush. Swipe wax on both sides.  Starting on the inside of your eyebrow begin brushing directly on your brow using the same action used when you brushed your eyebrow (Up & out.)Make sure to carry the outer line all the way through to the end of the eye shape (Don’t stop your eyebrow short) The wax shapes your brows to the thickness you’re trying to achieve as well as darkens. Be careful to NOT overload your brows with the wax or you’re going to end up with REALLY DARK EYEBROWS! EEEEEKKK!

Step4: Time for Brow Powder. The powder grabs where you placed the wax & fills in the areas of your eyebrow that may be missing hair. Your eyebrows are so sensitive. Extended use of waxing or over-plucking after a period of time will result in the hair taking longer to grow back or not at all. Brow powder in conjunction with Brow Wax solves this issue cosmetically. Your brows will look darker after this, but do not fret we are going to take care of that in just a minute!

Step5: Highlighter TIME!  High Brow by Benefit has this great creamy texture that is sort of like getting a brow lift without all of the pain & blood.  Its peachy hue covers any imperfections or slight of wrist that may have occurred during the wax & powder portion. Starting a tad before your arch smear a thick line all the way to the end of your brow. Taking your ring finger begin to blend the line into your skin like cream eye shadow. End with running a clean makeup brush over the area to further blend.

Step6: Here’s a 2-part step. Take your translucent powder & with a thick brush dip into powder & run along your T-Zone (Forehead/down nose.) The powder will fall onto your brows & lighten. End with brushing your brows up & out as done in Step2 with your Brow Brush & VOILA! PERFECTION

*An added tip to finish: Some like to take a clear mascara & run over the brow to hold in place. It’s totally up to you whether to do or not.*

I hope I met all of your brow needs. If you have any questions you can ask me on Twitter @KlemCharFash or email me Kristina@Klemcharfash.com

Happy Browing:)

What the Nail? Summer 2011

Between sipping Flirtini’s and basking in the glow of a warm summer day by the pool, the obvious question will keep kicking you in the face…literally. What nail polish are you wearing? Whether you’re a spa fiend who indulges in a mani/pedi on the reg or a more economically savy lass who polishes her piggies  solo style. The clear answer to what colors are steaming for Summer 2011 is easy: Keep it bright and preferably spicy. Ole’
